This double-circuit-capable 345 kilovolt (kV) transmission line, part of the CapX2020 project, stretches about 210 miles between a new Bison Substation west of Fargo, North Dakota, the existing Alexandria Switching Station in Alexandria, Minnesota, and the new Quarry Substation west of St. Cloud— and will improve community reliability in the southern Red River Valley and the Fargo, Alexandria and St. Cloud areas. Construction started in 2012, and the line was energized April 2, 2015.

Magic City-McHenry 230 kV Transmission Line Project

Recent growth in and around the City of Minot is resulting in the need for additional electric power. To continue to meet those needs, Xcel Energy plans to enhance the electric transmission system by constructing a new transmission line and substation southeast of Minot. The project is anticipated to be in-service by 2018.

Maple River-Red River 115 kV Transmission Line Project

Xcel Energy is currently in the project planning stages of an approximately 5-mile, 115kV transmission line within the City of Fargo and Reed Township, North Dakota.

The Maple River to Red River Project will provide increased reliability of electric service in the Fargo area by reducing overloads on neighboring lines and transformers. The project will help meet reliability standards without having to interrupt electric service to customers.
