Description

We are building an approximately 5-mile, 115 kilovolt (kV) transmission line within the City of Fargo and Reed Township, North Dakota. The line will serve as a second circuit connecting Xcel Energy’s existing Maple River and Red River substations on new right-of-way.

Construction Timeline

Construction began in October 2018 and is expected to be complete in the fall of 2019. The work will include expanding the Red River and Maple River Substations and building the new 115 kilovolt transmission line. Crews will build foundations, set structures and conduct stringing work. Xcel Energy will notify landowners of work taking place prior to crews arriving. We thank you for your patience as construction takes place.

Project Purpose

The Maple River to Red River Project will provide increased reliability of electric service in the Fargo area by reducing overloads on neighboring lines and transformers. The project will help meet reliability standards without having to interrupt electric service to customers. A Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity required for the project was approved by the North Dakota Public Service Commission in November, 2017.
