Grid North Partners

Xcel Energy is a partner in CapX2020, a joint initiative of 11 transmission-owning utilities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota and North Dakota. Its purpose is to expand the electric transmission grid to ensure customers continue to receive reliable, low-cost electricity. It also will increase access to renewable energy sources. The CapX2020 projects include four 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines, one 230-kV line and associated substations. The lines represent one of the largest single transmission initiatives in the region in decades, spanning nearly 800 miles.
