The proposed Moon Gulch Substation project consists of a new 230 kilovolt (kV) substation in northwest Arvada, Colo. The substation will serve a rapidly developing area in the west/northwest Denver metropolitan area of Broomfield, Jefferson and Boulder counties. The proposed location is near Candelas Parkway off of State Highway 72 in Arvada.
The substation is being built to serve growing demand in the area from new and existing residential, commercial and industrial development.
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity application for the project on January 20, 2016.
